Video: From Hippy to Hip Hop, It's Video Game Music Time ...
We share some great video game inspired music videos.
Friday. Friday. Friday! It is the time of the week again when we bring our readers some online entertainment. The kind of condensed entertainment seasoned with insanity that used to be reserved for Sunday afternoon quasi-sport events. That is right, it is time for us to reach into our Kung Fu Drafter bag and pick some of our favorite online videos to share with our readers. This week we have two video game inspired music videos.
Right at the top of the list this week is one seriously impressive hip hop video. Now we are not going to lie and say that we are huge “fans” of hip hop, but we do like some hip-hop and rap. Here at the Kung Fu Drafter we like everything from Beethoven to Weird Al and from Muddy Waters to Primus. With that wide a taste in music, it really isn’t a shock that we love this video by MC Lars. Inspired by Platinum Games’ Bayonetta, this wildly insane video "Reaping Beauty" pays true respect to its over-the-top source material. If you are any sort of gamer then you are bound to know that Bayonetta is the newest game published by Sega featuring a hyper-sexualized protagonist whose outfit actually consists of her own hair. We’ve played the demo and did not really care for it, but the video we love!
Our second video comes from Rebecca Mayes, an artist that we have posted about previously. We love her soft style of music and video game inspired lyrics. In "Batman: Arkham Asylum" we see her very talented personality split 4:1 as she portrays Batman, the Riddler, the Joker and the Penguin (who wasn’t in the game but that is ok). We love her low budget approach and obvious enthusiasm for the subject matter. If you have never seen a Rebecca Mayes video at The Escapist then be sure to catch this one. If you have seen her work online, be sure to visit her blog for even more great music videos.
We are sure that even as we type there are corporate lawyers with MC Lars and Rebecca Mayes in the sights of her high-powered legal rifles. If Sega and other game publishers were smart they would hire creative people like these artists to create trailers and marketing materials that are more engaging. Hell MC Lars made us want to buy Bayonetta and that was AFTER we had played the demo and hated it! As for Rebecca Mayes, we not only dig her hippy-green tea video game tunes, we think any girl that is willing to put on Joker make-up is pretty high on the awesome meter.
If you like these videos and have links to some of your favorite online video, be sure to leave a comment below. We always love to get links from our readers. However, if you don’t like these videos then you can just run away. Run away, in slow motion …
