Blog: New Year's Resolutions for the Kung Fu Drafter ...
We share our hopes and aspirations for 2010.
Well 2009 is a distant memory and there is a completely new, fresh year ahead of us all. Here at Kung Fu Drafter that means that it is time for a little introspection and planning for the future. The way we figure, what better way is there for us to start 2010 than with a little exercise in the time-honored tradition of making resolutions for the new year. Since 2010 is going to be the first full calendar year for Kung Fu Drafter, we would like to be able to look back on the year and gather some concrete metrics of success.
Oh sure we could make some crazy resolutions to get 100,000 unique hits per day. Or we could try to generate $1 million in ad-related revenue this year. Heck, we could even use this post to announce plans for global domination and our military-like overthrow of the Google empire. However, we decided to save all that for 2011. So instead, here are the resolutions for Kung Fu Drafter in 2010:
- Post with greater regularity - In 2009 we averaged nearly five posts per week. The problem is that there were a few periods of where we there were too many days between posts. Usually it was attributable to heavy workloads. Whatever the cause, we will try to maintain more regular and reliable posting schedule.
- Stay more current - We had to abandon far too many informative articles in the to-do pile for 2009. While we never intended for Kung Fu Drafter to be a blog with "bleeding edge" content, some topics have a very short shelf life. We will try to make these a priority in 2010.
- Add video more video content - In 2009 we posted our first bits of original video content. We feel that for Kung Fu Drafter to become more popular and relevant original video content is a must. Therefore, we will try to make the generation of that content a priority in 2010.
- Expand on CAD+ posts - In 2009 we began to make posts concerning topics that lie outside the "traditional" role of a CAD professional. We would like to continue and expand on this concept with posts concerning PowerPoint, Photoshop, Microsoft Office and other applications that are part of our lives as CAD professionals.
- Increase reader interaction - From the beginning Kung Fu Drafter was meant to be the culmination of many voices. While we have one main editor, the posts we write are the products of countless posts, discussions and experiences with other CAD professionals and Geeks. We feel that Kung Fu Drafter's greatest asset lies in our readers and we want to greatly increase the public feedback of those readers in 2010.
These are the five major goals that we will be working to achieve here at Kung Fu Drafter in 2010. While five resolutions may seem excessive, the truth is that there is quite a bit more we hope to achieve in addition to what is listed above. However, as any project manager knows, the key to the success of any project is realistic goal setting. We feel that these five goals are within reach for 2010.
But who would be if we only set our sights on what we can reach? We would be very boring people. If there is one thing we strive to avoid, it is being called "boring". So in addition to the five resolutions we have already listed there are five, let's call them, "ideas" that we would like to make a reality here at Kung Fu Drafter in 2010:
- Add reviews - We want to write reviews on the products that appeal to our lifestyles as CAD professionals and Geeks.
- Guest posts - We want would like to write more guest posts at other blogs and invite our readers to write guest posts here at Kung Fu Drafter.
- Go green - We are investigating ways to contribute to some of the many environmental movements.
- Add a forum - We feel that if traffic can rise to a certain level that the addition of a community forum for CAD professionals and Geeks alike will be a definite asset for Kung Fu Drafter and our readers.
- Add merchandise - Who wants t-shirts? We do!
So there it is, out on the table for all to see. Now that this is out in the public, we can feel the pressure of achieving some of this, lest we be pelted with rotten tomatoes. Take a moment and share your resolutions with us in a comment below or through our contact page. We would love to know what our readers hope to achieve in 2010. We think that our list represents a serious challenge for Kung Fu Drafter, as it currently exists. This challenge will force us to increase our efforts, evolve the site and expand our content. We think that all of this will result in a Kung Fu Drafter that is better able to serve our readers in 2010. And that can only serve to make our kung fu stronger ...
