W2W&W: Retarded World View Sinks James Cameron’s “Avatar” ...
Doc Jargon Doc Jargon takes a deep glaring look at James Cameron's Avatar.
I know that “Avatar” was beloved of nerdhood and geekdom across the globe. Hitler was mighty popular in Germany when he was elected, too. That’s not a comparison of “Avatar” and Hitler, by the way. It’s an illustration of how little popularity means when measuring philosophical merit.
It was no accident that I watched “Avatar” on the small screen at home. Besides not enjoying the over-priced, under-delivered experience of audiences raised by hyenas and not being able to turn the volume up or down to compensate for inconsistent audio design or delivery, if the only redeeming feature of a film is its technology, it is not a story and it isn’t art. Art presents a solid representation of abstract values and ideals.
Visit the official site ...The impressive, shiny trappings of “Avatar’s” 3D tricked a lot of very superficial people into enjoying a horrendous story. That’s equivalent to making “Ooh” and “Ahh” noises as a nuke takes out a city. “Such magnificent technical accomplishment! Must be a great achievement!”
Now that I have your attention, here are the ideological crimes committed by Cameron in this atrocious effort to wipe out humanity.
In reality, humans can only survive on earth among the other life-forms by using reason to adapt the environment. Without clothes, shelter and protection, humans are toast in a generation or so. Clothes, shelter and protection are the products of rational thought and science, not touchy-feely wishful thinking. Voodoo does not make anything but noises and scary shadows on smoky cave walls.
The message of “Avatar” is that most humans are rapacious predators that blindly, or maliciously, follow psychotic or sociopathic lone wolves. A rare, special few forsake their humanity to become taller, sexier, stronger, victorious savages who win against superior science by just wanting it more. Yeah. How’s that working for ya these days? Will chanting and tantric sex stop the Gulf oil spill? Hell no. Engineering will fix it.
If you get all misty when a tree is scarred by a machine (while building a hospital for children … but that’s details), then you are, deep inside anyway, a giant blue warrior who can fly dragons and ride unicorns and only kill the evil and never ever hurt the good. You can denounce absolutes like black and white and good and bad, but you will also know the difference very clearly because you can just “feel” it somehow, and you will never commit collateral damage in any way because, darn it, you’re just that noble.
Insert your favorite expletive right here so the KFD won’t have to censor me.
Noble savages do not cure polio or create power from the sun. Scientists do that. Savages have to hunt, fight, kill and sweat (or freeze) from before dawn until it’s too dark to see just to eat for that one day, and maybe the next. Engineers come up with ways to store food and distribute it so that it doesn’t go to waste and the same effort to feed one for a day feeds three for a week. Savages are blown away, freeze to death in tornados, and blizzards, and use up an area with their waste and have to move around, regularly starting almost from scratch. Architects make ways for people to live safely and securely, healthy, for decades and centuries in one spot.
Cameron on the set ...James Cameron repackages and markets the psychotic nightmare that the best thing about humanity is the willingness, even eagerness of a few to throw away what makes the species possible … the current end product of Glorious Evolution that has shaved people, blunted fang and claw, and swollen the brain … and embrace an impossible fantasy of being something other.
If you work for a living and make real things happen using your mind to create, reproduce or deliver valuable goods and services, you are the humans in Cameron’s delusion, incapable of ethics because making things poisons your heart, which is stronger than your mind.
“Avatar” says that those of you who recognize technology as a means to make life better are greedy, murdering fools, and the Kum-ba-ya crowd with body paint, guitars and Daddy’s money are your spiritual superiors.
If you accept that, you really are an intellectual pygmy.
