CAD: AutoCAD WS + Android Ignites Our Fanboy Glee ...

If there is one geek quality Kung Fu Drafter may be lacking in, it’s Apple love. In fact, there is not a single Apple product in the dojo! It’s just how we roll. Banging down the road or planning our intergalactic takeover, we always have a Droid X in the front pocket. Calls, texts, music, apps, or whatever else we need is right at our fingertips thanks to Android. Now we have one more weapon to fit into our pocket of personal communication power: AutoCAD!

While it’s true that ACAD WS has been available for the iOS platform for months we had been denied its mobile, geeky goodness since we were are not card carrying Jobsians here at Kung Fu Drafter. But no longer! Now we have our very own version of this great little version of AutoCAD. But the gifty goodness didn’t end there!

Not only is AutoCAD WS available on Android, but it showed up sporting expanded capabilities to mark its arrival! Not only does it handle the same DWG's as your AutoCAD workstation but now those files can be stored all over the freaking web! That’s right, you can store your drawing or even PDF’s and DWX files on Buzzsaw, Box.net, Dropbox, MobileMe, Egnyte, your own server or a Sharepoint site! Did we say “PDF”? Yep, because now you plot, open and mark-up PDF files from your phone or tablet with AutoCAD WS! On top of all that, there is also an improved web version of AutoCAD WS.

In case you have somehow been under a rock or a monastery, AutoCAD WS is Autodesk’s mobile version of its flagship product AutoCAD. While AutoCAD is for the workstation and intense power and use, AutoCAD WS is and optimized version made for use in the field on tablets and smartphones! See, how could you have missed that? You probably also didn’t get the word in the monastery that downloads for AutoCAD WS reached over 1 million since its initial release in late September 2010.

Now this mighty little mobile version of AutoCAD WS is bringing its specialized set of tools for mobile reviewing, annotation and editing to the Android platform. Don’t be surprised when you begin to see more and more handsets and tablets sporting genuine DWG files on the jobsite. With the Android OS and handsets gaining market share there is no doubt that AutoCAD WS is going to hit 2 million downloads faster than you can get dimensions from a floorplan DWG on-site with the client!
