Games: The Charity Contribution that Gives Back …

GamerWe like to keep things pretty light-hearted here at Kung Fu Drafter. We talk about TV, games, and exist in a general state of fun seeking snark. In fact, we like to think of ourselves as jaunty geeks, but sometimes we have to put on our serious hats. This is one of those times.

Good People Doing Good

There are people in this world who do better things with their time than sit around blog about games, TV, and other what-not. These are people who are out to make our world a better place through the acts of their respective charities and foundations like Child’s Play and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).

Child's PlayChild’s Play is an organization with a simple mission, “… to improve the lives of children in hospitals around the world …” Really? Can you think of a better goal? While they may have a simple mission, their list of supporters is a complex Who’s Who of the gaming world! Since 2003, Child’s Play has raised MILLIONS of dollars and helped countless children in difficult, medical situations.

The EFFWhile Child’s Play is focused on a very well defined group, the EFF is an organization out to help everyone in this new digital, connected world. “When our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense.” This line from their About page really states their goal so simply. When others want to impede our digital freedoms, and thus our progress and innovation, the EFF is there to help the end user.

It’s Time to Give Back

With the immense reach of these two organizations, chances are that you, or someone you know, may have been touched by their efforts. Whether you have a loved one in the hospital who got a Nintendo DS or you’re a blogger enjoying your Fair Use rights, it’s time to help those who help us.

For the next 11 days you can purchase the Humble Bundle for Android consisting of three fantastic games with a possible fourth. These games are cross-platform and DRM free! You just pay whatever you like, with 100% of your purchase going to these two fine charities. You even get to decide what percentage goes to each!

The Games

World of GooWhat are the games? Oh just three little titles like Anomaly, Osmos, and Edge! How do you get the fourth title and what is it? Well if you pay more than the current average (at your time of purchase) you get World of Goo. Which, by the way, is probably the MOST fantastic of all the physics-based games you can buy. This is a puzzler that touch screens were invented for!

A Suggestion

We’d know that our readers are going to snap this deal up before it’s gone. While the offer is a “Pay what you like” special, we’d like to ask our readers to pay a minimum of $10. $2.50 per game is more than fair for the value and will get you World of Goo. When we made our purchase we made sure to give Humble Bundle a $2 tip so that organization can continue bringing us these offers and helping great organizations and developers.

1UP!

That’s it. That’s our song and dance for two worthy organizations. We hope you don’t miss this opportunity to cash in on some great Android games. We suppose you could also use them on that other OS, we forget it’s name. But either way you will be doing what you can to help some great people who do what they can for all of us …
