|Here in the United States it is time for us to remember and honor those brave people who first populated this great land. And we do that by eating too much and watching TV afterwards. So we are here to give you something to think on!|
|It's already May 18! That means there are just 4 days left for you to get your proposal to speak at Autodesk University 2012 submitted! Still not motivated? Well maybe one of these videos will get you off your lazy butt!|
So what can we really say about Day One of Autodesk University 2011 that hasn't already been said by a thousand other blogs? Oh, there was the moment when people thought our editor was dead! Ha, top that Shaan Hurley! But more about that later, because it was near the end of a very eventful Day One. Then again, every day at AU is an eventful one.
As you can imagine we've been meeting and greeting some great people here in Las Vegas. While the noisy environment and the fact that we forgot the damn transfer cables for the video have delayed our video enterprise, it has not killed it. There will be video content from AU 2011 coming, we promise. And you can trust us because our kung fu isn't just strong, it is mighty!
So the day began with the annual General Session keynote. We have to admit that we walked in late because the AUGI meeting ran a bit long. But both events were well worth the time. The keynote carried a very maker/entrepreneurial theme which just went to support or suspicions that AU 2011 was going to be the year of the inventor/maker. Ok so we were a BIT off on our suspicions of an Inventor WS app, but we were pretty damn close on the overall concept. For that is a win. In fact, that brings the tally to one in a row!
The downside was the exit from the keynote. We want to meet the rocket scientist who decided it was a good idea to shove 8,000 people through three sets of double doors. Really! There was a torrent of CAD geeks, 8k strong, flowing through 24' of opening for about half an hour. At one point we had Black Friday flashbacks!
Still, that was a mild complaint because everything else has been great. We've had great meetings with Autodeskers, attended some fabulously informative sessions, and (for the first time ever) even got to speak in two sessions! That's right, our very own Curt Moreno is now an official, died in the wool, Autodesk University speaker. Now we just have to wait for the feedback to find out if we are blackballed or not ... nah ... it'll be fine.
Later in the evening the exhibit hall opened with the international event and there was food EVERYWHERE. Which is good because there were people everywhere also. Between the TechShop area and the Global eTraining booth, featuring the UNLV Raider Dance Team, it was hard to pick one place to spend your evening. So we went everywhere and did everything. Which leads us to the end of the evening.
It seems that our editor was so tired that he decided to make the long trek back to the hotel room and call it a night. But, being that we are sociable people, the evening couldn't end without saying hi to our favorite Canadians at GeT. That's where Curt decided to sit for a bit. And then lay down on the stage. Then he fell asleep. That's when a small crowd formed trying to decide if he was ok and if they needed to call someone. But it all worked out. And a good night's rest has the Kung Fu Drafter team ready to conquer Day Two.
Hey, it was just an average day at AU ...

Day One is off to a roaring start here at Autodesk University 2011 and we are riding the wave! Already this morning we have had our first little bird of gossip waiting for us with information on what we can expect on the expo floor! That's right, we are about to unload a Kung Fu Drafter exclusive! You will not be hearing about this anywhere else until the tradeshow floor opens! Yeah, we know people who know people.
It seems that our good friends at Global e-Training have got a real show planned for the AU 2011 attendees. And we mean a REAL show. Some of our readers might remember our coverage of GeT from last year and attendees remember that huge booth they had towering over the show. As impressive as GeT was last year, they have stepped their game up even more in 2011. First, and as a guest attendee we appreciate this, GeT is the only Gold level sponsor of AU 2011! That is pretty note worthy because it sure is not cheap, but there is more.
Global e-Training is now the official training partner for AUGI. We know that we do not have to explain to our readers what the great benefits AUGI provides are. So we won't. But as good as, it was; now it's even better with an official training partner like GeT. Even if you are not AUGI members (what is your deal) you can still check out GeT's training because they are providing every AU and AU Virtual attendee with a free trial! Come on, this is a big deal!
We know, you're saying "KFD that's all great, but that's not a show!" Boy, did we chump you, because GeT does have a show. In fact, they will have a STAGE in their booth where they will have a schedule of shows! Yeah boy! While other booths may be handing out fliers, GeT is putting on a variety show with a race car theme all hosted by the voice of GeT products, Mr. Brady Sylvester! We love meeting the voices of our favorite products! It is like ... hugging Winnie the Pooh or something.
Finally, we have saved the juiciest bit for last. As if the training, the trial, and the shows weren't enough GeT has one more surprise. We have VERY good information that the GeT team will be playing host to ... are you ready for this? ... the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebel Dance Team! How fantastic is that? And if you are a college basketball fan, we think that some recent games may make this even MORE exciting.
What is that? Your training provider isn't at AU? They ... aren't official AUGI partners? Oh and ... they aren't bringing the UNLV dance team to your convention to meet you and put on a show? Oh ... well that is a shame. Ours did. And that is why we love the GeT people! In fact, we officially rate their kung fu at the master level. Be sure to visit the GeT booth. We'll be there, probably alot. You know ... for the training ...
